The garment doesn’t fit. Find out why.

Pattern Lab studies garment fit, measurements, construction and underlying pattern relationships to identify what may need correction.

Fit is not one measurement.

Garment fit is influenced by the relationship between multiple factors:

  • BODY MEASUREMENTS
  • GARMENT MEASUREMENTS
  • EASE
  • PATTERN BALANCE
  • FABRIC
  • CONSTRUCTION
  • SHOULDER ANGLE
  • ARMHOLE
  • SLEEVE PITCH
  • FRONT / BACK BALANCE
  • GARMENT LENGTH
  • SILHOUETTE

A problem visible in one area may originate somewhere else in the pattern.

Technical trouser fit analysis

The garment leaves clues.

  • Collar gaping
  • Shoulder dropping
  • Armhole pulling
  • Chest tension
  • Sleeve twisting
  • Excess back fabric
  • Side seam movement
  • Uneven hem
  • Trouser crotch issues
  • Waistband issues

Don’t just alter the sample. Understand the pattern.

Repeatedly altering physical samples without correcting the underlying pattern can allow the same problem to return.

The objective is to understand the technical cause and update the development accordingly.
